Disable office online in MS Word 2003

The office online side bar can be very annoying at times when you open Microsoft Word 2003. To disable it,

Press F1 to open Word Help

Click on Online Content Settings…

Uncheck the checkbox next to show contents and links from Microsoft Office Online.

Click OK.

In order to speed up the Thesaurus, you have to go into Help -> Research -> Research options... -> Update/Remove... then select and Remove the gobs of installed services that slow everything down. I only left the Thesauri. Maybe should have left the dictionary, as I can't seem to get the dictionary back. But I really don't need it to check all my words to see if it needs to translate it from Korean to Turkish for me.

I have the same problem (trying to disable online in office 2003. When I go to the "Service Options" I find all the boxes already unchecked. I am just resigned to pulling more of my hair out.

The easiest way to do this is to go "tools"-"options", and then under "view" uncheck the "Startup Task Pane" box.
